I am now considering the Mexico route as well. I just found out that my insurance policy has Weight Loss Surgery as an exclusion. :(

Curious about Mexico. Do you do the recovery in a hotel?
My dr says patients aren't cleared to fly for about a month

It depends on the surgeon... the surgeon I'm going to has one recovery day in the hospital and the 2nd in a recovery house.

I picked a surgeon that operates in a hospital instead of a clinic. I spent 3 nights in the hospital and 2 at a great hotel in Tijuana then headed to my friend's house in San Diego and flew home 2 days later. I had no problem with flying home a week after surgery.

Dr. Kelly visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day at the hotel. Not many of the TJ surgeons offer that level of care. I was very happy with how it all turned out.

Dr. Cabrera, Mexico Bariatric Center 1-855-768-7247. He is amazing. I spent 2 nights in hospital and 2 nights at hotel. Dr also visited patients in hotel. Staff was great. Whole experience was great. Good luck and do your research. They have specials all the time and even have buddy discount. How cool is that?

I had my surgery with Dr Illan in March. I had surgery on a Monday, spent two nights at the hospital, then another two at a hotel where a doctor visited me daily. I flew home Friday morning (San Diego to Toronto so a pretty decent haul) and felt just fine. I've had zero problems or complications...cannot recommend Dr Illan enough!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
