Baton Rouge Balloon?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I just started researching weight loss procedures. I'm 43 and have 75 lbs to lose. I've tried Nutrisystem, a shake only diet, Ideal Protein, Functional Medicine detox, intense exercise...and always lost 20 lbs - that's it though. I admit that I don't always follow ALL of the rules so that's probably why. I'm frustrated and found out about the balloon. Any advice? Does it work? Regrets? Anyone in Baton Rouge have recommendations?

Thanks!

I had my balloon put in in January. Sure I lost 20 lbs, but I lost that in the 1st month because I had to fast and get used to the balloon. Haven't lost amy weight since. It's been a big dissapointment for me.

From someone who's gone through it I'd say I have absolutely no regrets... the balloon did what it was supposed to do and that was help me lose weight, which I did. However, the balloon is not a cure you need to take is seriously and really work with your doctor to break your bad habits. I'm having my second balloon put in in July because I still need help losing weight. 6 months was just not enough time for me to break all my bad habits. Hopefully this time around I'll kick my bad habits for good. Good luck to you and stick it out... the first two weeks are the worse but it gets better...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
