From Weight Loss To Maintenance Stage

Recommended Posts

So I have passed the goal weight that my surgeon has set for me. I was at my support group meeting last night and I asked one of the NUTS how do I go fro weight loss to maintenance and was told that my weight loss will slow down or stop when I am ready to switch to maintenance. WOW! I was thinking it was going to be more of an effort on my part (i.e. eating more to stop the weight loss). So I guess that I will just continue on with what I am doing and wait until my wife says that I am starting to look too skinny then start to up my calories. I have seen on here where people talk about a 10 pound bounce when they go from weight loss to maintenance. I guess I need to make sure I am at least 10 pounds under my surgeon's goal weight before I start to think about switching to maintenance.

Sounds like a plan. I'd go ten under too to bounce. 👍

Lol.

Nut says listen to your body.

Maxx says listen to your wife.

(Berry tosses popcorn into mouth and crunches loudly)...

My Doc sets goal high in my opinion I am in the middle of normal. I also listened to my internist closely. Switching to maintenance has been the scariest most difficult part! Glad you have a group to see you through!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
