Can't get enough Water in. Can't get enough Protein in. When I eat I'm supposed to wait 30 minutes to drink but when I eat (now) I feel very dehydrated so I want to drink. Help please!!!!!

My doctor told me our minds will play tricks on us, making us think we are hungry when we are thirsty. This is because our bodies are trying to learn how to communicate with us now that we broke it's normal
routine. I'm freezing all my drinks and eating them like crushed ice because straight names me sick. Drinking is hard so use to being able to take bigger drinks. Gluck!!

I am anticipating this being very hard for me post op as well. I have been trying to get into the habit before surgery but....I really like to drink and eat at the same time...

I feel the same way.. I'm 8 days post op and I feel like I'm starving myself, even tho I'm not hungry. I'm having protien shakes, Isopure zero carb drink, cream of chicken, propel Water and that's about it.

When you are on clear or full liquids, there is no real reason to wait to drink. Liquids don't hang out in your pouch for 30 minutes. So if you are thirsty, drink!

Once you are into more solid foods it does become important to wait.

Docs want good habits from the start. But if you understand that you aren't waiting now, but you have to later, everything will be fine.

How many calories a day are you getting? I was sleeved a week ago and my first day home from the hospital I only had about 400 calories. I'm getting better now and getting in around 600-ish plus my water. I was worried in the beginning about not being able to eat enough to get Protein requirements. I have some non-flavored Protein Powder that I add to all of my Soups, too. I think that's helping boost the calories, too. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
