Thanks for asking this questions. I want to know the same. I do not have a scheduled surgery date as I'm still going through the process. I have a 4 1/2 hrs orientation on Thursday, 4/27. I'm so excited. I will await an answer to your question.

You Vitamin needs post-op are dependent on what kind of surgery you'll have...I had the VSG and my vitamin needs are different than a RnY or DS patient. Your surgeon's office should be able to tell you what you'll need.

As to starting them before surgery, I did just to ensure that I was in the best shape possible going into surgery. I started about 3 months out, stopped them for a few days right before surgery then started up again afterward.

Good luck!

Hi! No matter what we take, Hair loss is part of the deal and is inevitable, I guess and it happens to everyone, but it is temporary and as soon as the body adjusts, the hair grows back, sometimes different and better than before. I used to have straight hair and not I am on a curly side 😊

I asked the nutritionist in my bariatric program about taking Biotin to prevent Hair loss and she was of the opinion that if you take massive amounts you'll just wind up peeing it out again.

I was advised to stop all Vitamins 2-3 weeks before surgery.

Just wait until you're cleared post-op for chewables/liquid.

As for what vitamins, I really don't understand how one could ask this.. do you guys not have a dietitian/nutritionist? Classes?

Should I start any Vitamins prior to surgery? Like Biotin to help prevent hair loss?

What Vitamins will I need each day after surgery?

Thanks in advance :)

I take a multi Vitamin and Vitamin D but that is part of my daily routine for years. I definitely don't see how a Multivitamin could hurt until you get ready to have surgery and have instructions to stop.

My nutritionist recommended starting Biotin 5000 mcg, one in the morning and one at night. I started it almost 2 months ago and around the 6 week time period after starting it noticed a difference in my hair, it has more body and shine, and I even get compliments on it at work when I haven't done anything different to it.

Have you started seeing a surgeon or nutritionist yet? The best thing to do is find out what the program you are doing recommends.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
