LESSON LEARNED... very first Dump

Recommended Posts

Today, I got sick as a dog. I had my first experience with DUMPING. I had 4 HUGE episodes of diarrhea, and threw up once as well.

The lesson? Don't eat Salmon patties. Seriously. Damn things may taste good, but they are sooo not worth it.

That sure as heck sounds like dumping syndrome alright, but salmon patties?! Man, that sucks. I've not eaten one of those since I was forced to as a kid. What is in them that caused it do you think? I honestly have no clue how the are made.

Also, are you a bypass or sleeve patient?

I think they are frequently fried. Maybe that was the problem?

I think it was because I used actual oil to fry them instead of just spraying the pan. It amounted in too much oil..

I won't be doing THAT again. ACK!

Ah, it was the added fat! I can completely empathize with you. Now I am thinking I need to give salmon patties a try. We have an air fryer that is probably my most used kitchen toy. "Fried" fish in that thing is fantastic.

I figure if I had just used the spray on oil, that wouldn't have happened... lol. Oh well, lesson learned. PAINFULLY.

HAHAHA

Man I have never dumped from fat. I think I would die, lol. Fat is my life.

Although the more stories I read, the more I think it is excessive calories hitting the intestines too fast, than the content of the food. I don't dump but I can make myself sick if I eat something that hits my intestines too fast.

@ShilohD How far out are you?

I'm at 7 weeks. 45 lbs lost, and honestly, this was the first time this has happened. Nothing I've eaten thus far has done this to me up mail now.

You kind of have to pace yourself for introducing new foods. You are going from bland foods with barely any Protein, fat or sugar, to regularish foods. You have to kinda chill at least until 3 months, then you can get more adventurous

I've tolerated everything well up to this point. And I WAS cautious. I mean, the patty was only 2.5 oz. And I only had the one. OMG! I WOULD HATE to imagine how it would have turned out if I had eaten a. Second one. GOOD GRIEF!

But, yes... I hear you. I shouldn't have done anything fried

It is a learning process, everyone learns what they can tolerate by trial and error and it changes over time. Just wait till 3 months and try again.

I eat low carb fried fish once a week or 2 times a month. So I am not judging you on frying at all. I fry stuff all the time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
