Nursepayne 3 Posted April 24, 2017 I finally took the step to get the gastric sleeve. I am 5 days post op and having a hard time drinking my Protein Shakes. I didn't expect so much pain. I have already lost 12lbs in 5 days. Is this too much? I have a cousin and uncle who had bypass over 15 yrs ago so it is hard to compare stories. I have struggled my whole life with weight and am disgusted with myself....but now feel regret. Any ideas to help me gain more strength to get through these first several weeks? 1 Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
MrsMayberry7 3 Posted April 24, 2017 I am just beginning my process to be sleeved but I have 2 Special people in my life that have had the VSG already. From what I've researched and from what my friends say everyone regrets it at 1st. It's tough the 1st week but from observation I see it gets better. 3 stlclg, Mama V and Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
Nursepayne 3 Posted April 24, 2017 Thank you for the response. I had such a better picture of post op in my mind. I know and hope it will get better. Where are you in the process?
Mrs.W 15 Posted April 24, 2017 I'm proud of you and understand what you are going through. I am 12 days post op... Some days are good...and some days you have painful hiccups (literally). Stick to the people who support you and lift you up. Discard the ones that bring you down😎 1 stlclg reacted to this
ShilohD 70 Posted April 24, 2017 The regret is kinda normal, I think. I went through 6 months of conditioning myself for this. Learning HOW I would have to eat after, and I thought I was ready. Then after surgery, I was miserable. I had not been ready for how I felt (pain) or how I had to drink... tiny little.medicine cup sips... and it STILL affects getting in all my water... But, you will be fine. And believe me, you WON'T regret this. Once you start getting used to it, it gets easier. It is worth it 3 Nursepayne, Deactivatedfatgal and stlclg reacted to this

Where are you in the process? So I am in the very beginning. I just got a referral from my doctor. I have nutrition class tomorrow and my intro to bariatric surgery on the 1st. I also need to get a sleep study for sleep apnea. I am going through Kaiser and it is covered by my insurance. Hopefully it goes smoothly.
Godsgirl65 5 Posted May 1, 2017 NursepayeI'm so sorry things have been rough for you . I was sleeved on 3/22/17. And I too was miserable 5 days out. I will be at 6 weeks in 2 days and I am now starting to feel great. Please stay hydrated drinking Water, you will feel exhausted until you can get in more food , so rest as much as possible . Remember your sleeve is still swollen and you have to baby it until the swelling goes down. My doctors told me that takes at least 6 weeks . I think for me that was true. So sip cold water. Drink your Protein little at a time, take your Vitamins and don't hesitate to call your Doctor if you really feel bad... but I want you to know it does get better 1 Nursepayne reacted to this
Nursepayne 3 Posted May 3, 2017 Thank you for the encouragement. I'm slowly starting to get better. I'm still taking it slow, but going to try to go back to work on Monday. I'll be 3 weeks post op. Water has been the hardest...but drinking more each day.Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
