You are welcome to attend our monthly Columbus Lap Band Support Group (513-939-2263 for details). We have a lot of Columbus patients come down to West Chester, OH north of Cincinnati because we do Lap Band surgery full-time and one of our band surgeons (Dr. Mobley) has had the band himself. We provide fills locally in Columbus and have so many patients we are going to send one of our surgeons up there so patients don't have to travel for consults, etc. Also feel free to call the office because all of the receptionists are banded and our two fill nurses are banded and you can ask them any question you might have about the band.

Yes it is.

Angie runs that group and she has had the band surgery.

You can find out more info by calling the Cincinnati office at 513-939-BAND (2263). They'll give you the exact location (I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know!)

If you have any difficulty locating it, please let me know.

We only use the AP bands when we place an Allergan band. We really like them and think they should be used over the "old" Allergan bands.

We also are among the first in the country to offer the new REALIZE band from Ethicon. It too is a nice band.

I tried to find a photo or image of what the Realize band looks like and not having any luck. The Reallize website says its still in development. Anybody have a picture they can post?

I meant to say the web site for the company to inform people about the Realize band specifics is what is under development not the band device itself.

I can't find a photo on the web.

It used to be called the Swedish band or the Obtech band before Ethicon bought it.

Their website (www.realizeband.com) has no photos currently, but I suspect they are coming soon. The announcement says, "December 2007" so I would watch that website for more info.

Hi everyone! I would love to join a local support group! I am currently jumping thru hoops for the second time (see my story on N E 1 forum) to get the band at Mt Carmel with Dr. Choban. My family and I live in Canal Winchester, SE of CBus, but I am willing to drive for a group!

Hi Nurse Niki,

You're welcome to attend our Columbus support group. Our clinic is in West Chester, OH north of Cincinnati but we have lots of patients from Columbus so we have office hours there and a support group. You can call the office 513-939-BAND (2263) for details. Angie runs that support group and is a band patient herself.

Hope that helps.

I just wanted to take time to thank everyone for all the insight they have provided to me via this web site. I really haven't encountered anyone else to talk with in person so far - no family has had weight loss surgery and no friends or coworkers that have ever admitted it to me at least.

I'm off to spend the next 11 days in Arizona for Christmas with my brother and sisters. Can't wait! Merry Christmas!

HI Juli,Nice to meet you? I am planning on attending the Get together at Polaris on the 8th of Jan. Hope to meet you there. I see your weight loss is going very well for you. Any tips? I start cycle classes at the Marion Y on the 7th of Jan and I an also taking a Water arobic class. I have been not doing so well on the exercise part because my job is quite strenous but since I got my bodybugg I have been doing so much better. It is such a motivator:) It is really nice to chat with some local people that have been banded. I was a self pay so I am really motivated to make this work and so far it has been very good for me, worth every penny :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
