My gastro did an endoscopy on me on Friday. All went well but he did mention he took a few biopsies.... um, of what?? he said he would send the paper work over for surgery and all and also would call me if something "comes back" on the biopsies.

Is this normal? Did I have something going on? I was still out of it from the anesthesia to question him. Im not freaking out or anything but it's itching me.

They will sample anything that looks a bit odd - polyps can happen in the stomach as well as in the colon (which is what they commonly remove and biopsy during a colonoscopy), anyplace where it looks like an ulcer may be forming, there can be localized changes to the lining that can be pre-cancerous. It's generally nothing to worry about, but if there is something going on it's better to know about it early rather than later.

Same thing happened to me: biopsies of my stomach. It turned out that I had the H. Pylori bacteria and was given a two-week antibiotic treatment. Apparently pretty common, even though I'd never of it till then.

When I had my EGD done, the doc told me that he biopsied all patients for the H. Pylori bacteria just to be on the safe side. I don't know if maybe that's standard practice pre-surgery? I'm sure everything will come back ok for you [emoji6]

It's for h pylori . If you have it they'll typically treat with triple therapy( two antibiotics and a PPI )

I didn't have HP but had biopsies done. I had an inflamed stomach at the time (back in nov 16). It was nothing to worry about for me. When we hear "biopsy" it's almost instinct to think the worse, cancer, etc. Have hope. It's all well and nothing of the sort. Maybe it's just inflamed a little. Blessings to you hon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
