Insulin resistance and weight loss

Recommended Posts

I have type 2 diabetes and Pcos and I'm finding it difficult to loose weight. Also, one of my diabetes medications makes it difficult to loose weight as well. I have 15 pounds I need to drop before surgery. For those that have insulin resistance what diet did you find worked best for weight loss prior to surgery?

Hello! I have PCOS but no diabetes. I too found it very difficult to lose the necessary weight prior to surgery. I incorporated Premier Protein shakes (30g) as a Meal Replacement at least once a day. Cut all carbs - it will be difficult but WORTH IT! No Pop, Crystal Light will become a good friend ;) - plenty of Water to flush everything out and walk! I hope this helps - good luck!!

I've tried to do low carb high fat diet which worked great for me but due to my medication and not having hardly any carbs my blood sugar would drop so I stopped doing that diet. Maybe I can try it again and cut my medication doses in half.

I find for me to lose weight I have to keep my carbs around 20g. So I count everything including any carbs in the shakes and Vitamin gummies/chews. All carbs not net. It has worked well before and after surgery. I am down 82 lbs total.

I want to try low carb high fat, as I did get a PCOS diagnosis, but my NUT keeps encouraging me to incorporate whole grains into the diet and keep the fat intake low. Sigh.

Hi I also don't have diabetes, but my PCOS is really bad. It's frustrating for me because my doctors tend to dismiss my PCOS and I haven't received treatment for it. What helped me lose weight was cutting out sugary drinks, if you're addicted to sugary drinks, go for sugar-free. I also did my best to follow the diet the program gave me. Sweets are my weakness, and once I gradually cut it out, I noticed a lb drop here and there.

I have PCOS and insulin resistance as well. Even before I started changing my diet, I found introducing an exercise routine helped my insulin levels A LOT. Doing aquafit and then lap swimming 3x per week made a huge change. It didn't help me lose much weight (about 7lbs, then another ten once I got my diet in check), but if you're already dieting then maybe the exercise will help!

Here's an article about it: https://www.diabetesdaily.com/blog/2014/09/exercise-fight-insulin-resistance-with-the-most-powerful-weapon/

I'm going to try this week low carb and see how it goes. My doctor has gave me Trulicity an injection shot to help with insulin resistance, so hopefully I see a difference.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
