Hello, all. I had my surgery about 6 weeks ago, on march 9th. I was losing weight fast, then all of a sudden I stopped losing. Is that to be expected or is that not normal?

I lost quickly the first 5 weeks and entering 6th week to about the 9th week I lost very very very slowly... then out of no where I started losing again! Don't get discouraged, you're probably not doing anything wrong. It's just your body trying to adjust. Had surgery Feb 17th and down 60lbs

Stalls are common and frustrating but it will pass. I stalled at 3 wks, again around 6 wks and I'm currently in an almost 2 week stall at 16wks. Hoping it breaks soon.

Are you exercising? If not, you may want to start (if OK by your surgeon). If you are, you may want to increase the time you spend exercising. This was something my nutritionist really hammered home as an important part of the process.

Yes, as much as I can. I do have rheumatoid arthritis so there is a limit on how much I can do. But I try to at least walk a few times a day.

As soon as I am cleared to do so, I plan to spend a lot of time in the pool for low-impact exercise. Also, the elliptical is good for a low-impact activity. I am contemplating investing in one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
