HI all,

Just wondering how long it takes for Emblem Health-HIP to approve and what are the requirements.

Well I have Emblem health GHI in NY and it only took a week. Not sure if HIP would be the same but they're both under emblem health.

Oh wow that's quick. What are their requirements? And how long from 1st consult to now? Best of luck! I can't wait for my surgery date.

Oh and who's your dr? I'm going to see Dr. Merola. New York Presbyterian Queens.

I started my process in October and Dr. Merola is my doctor also!!!! Follow the sheet he gives you and no problem....I gained 6lbs during the 6 month consults but he said not to worry and he was right. I think he is great!

Wow that's 7 months. Yikes. I don't wanna wait that long :(
My friend used to work for him. So he comes highly recommended.

I went to his seminar around October last year. Just got insurance so my first consult with him is next Friday.

I went to his seminar at the end of October and saw him in November. I began my PCP visits then. You have to do 6 months of visits with your PCP so even though I have been ready since October I just finished my required visits until April. I was done with all my other required doctors back in January.

He really explains everything that will happen and what you need to do. Just follow his sheet of requirements and get them all done so that all you need is the PCP visits that's where the wait comes in because Emblem requires 6 consecutive months with your PCP

So the PCP visits what are they for? Weigh ins?

Yes you have to get weighed and consulted about your diet and exercise. At the end of the 6 months your PCP has to write a letter for the insurance and submit his notes that shows the 6 months of weigh ins

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
