Co-Morbidity Back Pain

Recommended Posts

I am in the 6 month process and have a BMI of 35. I have elevated BP, high cholesterol and high triglycerides with no meds. I worry about the cholesterol and triglycerides and BP and follow a heart healthy diet with no results (in my labs or my weight). My question is has anyone had luck with severe back pain as a co- morbidity- or did it help. Honestly when I think about why I am ultimately having the surgery is the relief of my back pain. It is AWFUL. Thanks in advance:)

What has 2 thumbs and had horrible back pain before surgery? THIS GUY!

Glad to report that 70 pounds later I can walk without any pain. Good luck on your journey and may you have the same results as I did!

I was looking at a major back surgery! I got a 2nd opinion and he said with aggressive lifestyle change I would be a whole new person. So glad I listened to him. Took me 6 months to get my bypass but wow was he right. First 20 lbs and the pain was hardly noticeable. I'm 4 lbs away from my goal weight and I'm TOTALLY pain free and doing things I never thought were possible.

This is very encouraging. It is honestly what I am looking forward to the most and what is mostly driving me to do the surgery. I can exercise in the pool but end up in bed afterwards from the pain. I have an appointment on Monday regarding it so I am just hoping they can do something for me while I wait this 6 long months!!

That is awesome. Are you post surgery?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
