Iron pills making me sick.

Recommended Posts

Upon the doctors recommendation, I have been taking two 306mg ferrous gluconate pills twice a day and it's making me feel sick.

I was told to take it three times a day but I can not handle being this nauseated in the middle of the day and while I am in public. It's the worst when I take it on an empty stomach but taking it with some food doesn't help either.

Is anyone else experiencing this?? Is there anything that helps get rid of the nausea??

I understand what you are going thru. Iron makes me sick too, I've tried every Iron supplement, I using a chewable for the last week. so far so good, but usually during week two I start feeling bad. I might try the iron patch that is in the Bariatric Pal Store next. I really don't want to be infused again.

Try this one. These are the only kind that do not make me sick.

Was there Calcium in the Multivitamin ? You can't take Iron and calcium together. It diminishes the absorption of both. I usually wait at least 1 hour but usually 2-3.

Hello , I took Calcium in the morning and Iron at evening time . I ordered flavored iron soft chews from Bariatric Fusion and hopefully those would work . I think that I just can’t stand the strong smell and taste of iron . The trapezius pain was definitely a muscle strain and probably due to changing my sleeping position after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
