Insurance Approved last week

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First time posting but these forums have been a wonderful resource over the past few months. I'm just introducing myself to this forum. I got approved last week by my insurance, which is Oxford, for the bypass and will be meeting first week of May with my surgeon to set the operation date. I believe the operation will be somewhere near the end of May. It's been quite a journey to get to this point, as all of you know, and feeling excited, anxious and a bit nervous for the next steps (pre-op dieting, op, post-op recovery & diet, etc.).

Looking forward to all of your good thoughts and glad to be a part of this community.

Ben

I also got the call last Friday that I was approved, but I had all of my appointments prior to this, my last appointment was last Wednesday. My surgery is May 1st. And I agree, it has been quite the journey...My surgery is in Syracuse. I see you are in NY...are you downstate?

It's interesting how every office does it differently. The surgeon I am working with meets with the patient to schedule the operation date after all pre-reqs are completed and insurance has approved. Throughout the process you meet with the other staff but I think it's a way for him to manage the appointment load considering it's a NYC office with lots and lots of patients.

May 1st is coming up soon, good luck with the day and with the next steps of the journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
