Surgery in a few hours

Recommended Posts

Man I'm freaking out the anxiety is thru the roof, I'm not used to this feeling. Surgery is at 1030am Mountain time and I am questioning if I'm doing the right thing, I feel sick to my stomach with nerves. Anyone else getting done today?

Anything else you guys did to rid the nerves?

Good luck on your surgery today. When you check into the hospital, make sure that you request that they have trapeze bar above the bed. It will help immensely in getting up out of bed after surgery. And remember to walk, walk, walk every 2 hours after surgery. It really helps to minimize the pain.

You will be fine. I had my RNY on Monday. I was in a lot of pain all day Monday after surgery but Tuesday was much better. It will be the best decision you have made. It won't be easy but it will be worth it to be healthy

Well all went well they found a hernia they repaired so that incision is quite painful but shockingly the rest isn't bad. It's been about 3 hours since I was brought up to my room and I just got back from my walk around the unit

It actually went really well they fixed a hernia from a previous gallbladder surgery and that's the spot that hurts the most.... I will say they wanted me up and walking the floor every 2 hours and I have been doing every 1 hour. The gas pain really is the worst of it. It's amazing how much I don't want food stuff I normally before was drooling over is just kinda meh feeling. Totally worth it in the end the pain is not bad I had no reason to be so nervous[emoji3]

I'm up north in Prescott and my surgeon is in Phoenix - Dr Sprunger. I'm still preop. There doesn't seem to be many Arizonans on this site and if there are, they're all down south. Lol

Prescott is Beautiful I loved riding motorcycles up there and hope to again in the upcoming year.

Congrats on taking the steps to a healthier you and opening a set of tools that you will use for your entire life.

I agree there doesn't seem to be a lot of folks in Arizona that are open about bariatrics it would be nice if there was a meetup.com group or something

Are you struggling with any excess fluids from the hospital? That's my personal concern with surgery. I had an emergency csection a few years ago and had so much Water retention that I literally couldn't walk starting the day after through the week at the hospital and first week home (my feet and ankles couldn't bend they were so Fluid filled)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
