Am I being crazy?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 3 weeks ago and I am struggling emotionally. I want to be realistic about weight loss but I have been getting very down about the lack of weight loss. The last two weeks the scale has barely moved and the last two days it went up. I have not cheated, not one single drop. I want this so bad but I have this feeling I am not going to be successful like all the stories I read, and not for a lack of trying. Am I the only one? Even as I say it I know it sound unrealistic but it's a feeling I can't shake. I'm struggling and was hoping maybe felt the same way before or had some advice.

Don't worry time will fly by and do will the pounds. Follow your provider's instructions and workout and you'll do great. Don't compare yourself to others we are all different and don't start from the same place, the higher your BMI the faster you lose initially usually. Focus on being the best you you can be and you'll never fail.

How many pounds have you lost since the day of surgery?

I was 300 on 3/29 and as of today I am 283. I understand that is a good weight loss but it was almost all the first week. It's hard only seeing a few pounds off in two weeks.

I lost 5 lbs my first 3 weeks. I truly believe it is the Water weight balancing against the fat loss. I only lost 2 lb in the last 8 days, but cannot wear pants I wore last week because they are too big. Really? After a 2 lb weight loss?!?!?! The body is constantly shifting after this surgery and realigning itself. A lot of people will go 2-3 weeks (myself included) without any weight loss then in the next few days it will start falling off. IT WILL COME OFF if you are following you surgeon's instructions. It is scary to think, "What if I am the only one that fails at this?" You won't fail - the weight will come off when it is ready. Just keep up the good work and you will be rewarded. Just not as fast as we want it!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate hearing that. I just wanted to know I am not alone. That feeling of maybe this is going to work for me i think will be in the back of my mind for a while but it won't be for a lack of trying!

Thanks for your post. I'm having those same thoughts tonight. I'm two weeks postop and I've lost 10 pounds. I'm following everything to the letter, including exercise everyday. It just seems like since this is all I'm focusing on, I should be doing better. Even though in my brain I know everyone is different and there are logical explanations for why I'm not losing more, it doesn't help my heart. [emoji17]

If you are following the program, then you are doing everything right and the weight will come off. Relax, and enjoy! Take the pressure off yourself and just keep making good decisions.

As you may know, your body will rarely just lose weight and keep losing without stopping and adjusting appropriately. You have lost 17lbs! Who cares when now your body is adjusting for more! You are doing awesome, keep walking and drinking. I believe those who lose less in the short term will often have more success in the long term because the are more diligent in following the program. When the weight falls off, you can cheat and still lose weight which means many people do just that until they do not follow the program at all and have no momentum to start again.

There are 1000s of things that regulate your weight and fat loss, don't assume it is only calorie restriction. But in time, it all comes off as your body adjusts to the MASSIVE changes you just gave it.

I would try your hardest to remove the torture aspects of your progress and program or you risk everything. No one can be tortured and their program and voluntarily keep it.

You are doing awesome, stay motivated and be happy. (Scientifically proven, happy people lose weight faster)

Thank you for your amazing comment! I decided to weigh myself max two times a week. I think that will take some stress off me. I saw the doctor today for my first post-op appointment at the three week mark. i'm excited for what the next few months hold.

I'm almost 5 weeks out. Until yesterday the scale didn't really move for 10 days after having lost about 4 #/week. It fluctuated between 1 pound difference from day to day(up .5lbs, then down by .3lbs ect). Finally I had a 1.5 loss. I just so happened to meet with the surgeon yesterday and he said everything is going great. I could expect to lose an average (over 3 months) between 2-5#/week. Everyone stalls and maybe this is your stall. I will say this though, even tho I wasn't losing during those 10 days, my body composition was changing. I had bought a new pair of pants right at the time I stalled and now I'm hiking them up because they are already a bit too big. Keep your head up ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
