Hi all. I'm three weeks out and wondering when I can expect some of my energy to come back. I feel totally wiped out and sluggish all the time. I'm getting in plenty of Protein, Water, and supplements, and I'm walking a lot, but I haven't been able to start lifting weights like I wanted to because I can barely summon the energy to lift anything. What gives? Is this normal?

I'll be 9 weeks out this week. It took me until 6 weeks out before I had energy back, which was when my doctor released me to lift weights. What we forget is what a major surgery we had. The first 2 weeks I could barely muster the energy to walk up my stairs. The good news is you will start feeling better soon. You really just have to listen to your body, and let yourself heal. Good luck!!!

Thank you. I get ahead of myself sometimes. I guess I just wanted to hear that this was normal.

Yes, you've just had MAJOR surgery, so your body is having to make lots of adjustments! I was about 6 weeks before I really felt GOOD. Then I felt better than I have felt in YEARS!!!! Hang in there.

I'm 6 days out and cannot wait to feel better and have energy. It's nice to see people say to hang in there and it'll happen soon!

I am almost 5 weeks out and I am just now feeling like myself, I had a hernia repair as well, so it's been rough several weeks, it will get better.

I am also 5 weeks out and the tiredness was also driving me crazy. Just do what you can and listen to your body. By last week I began to feel less tired and now this week I feel the best ever since surgery. If you feel tired don't be afraid to rest. Your body's talking to you. You'll feel much better very soon.

My BFFs are both MDs & they both told me that it takes the body time to adjust to operating at such a significant calorie deficit. Your body was used to operating on a significantly higher budget. It has to adjust... especially carrying such a significant amount of weight. This is my 3rd week post op and I can definitely that I am still in recovery and adjustment mode. It's getting a little better each day. One thing, it HAD to be more exhausting carrying around the additional pounds. I think it's in our heads "how much more energy we used to have" [emoji23]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
