I am so bummed!

My surgery is scheduled for one week from tomorrow - 4/25.

I had my Pre-Op appointment this past Friday, started my "blended liquid" diet on Saturday.

Saturday woke up with a bit of a rash. Thought it was spider bites.

Woke up YESTERDAY with the rash having spread a bit and wasn't itchy. I decided since I'm having surgery soon, I better get it looked at and get on something if I need to so it can be GONE for surgery.

The ER doc told me I have SHINGLES!!!!!!!! I'm 34yo and have the darn shingles. They don't hurt, I'm not having ANY symptoms other than the rash.

I'm waiting for my surgeon to call me back now to find out if this is going to delay my surgery. What a journey - I've come so far, I'm in THE HOME STRETCH and now THIS. BAH!

That seems unlikely... I'd call your GP to confirm the diagnosis...

I confirmed with my PCP yesterday. BUT good news - she said they should have run their course by Sunday which is two days before surgery. The lesions won't be gone but she said I should still be able to have surgery and that she would call my surgeon to let him know her opinion (for what it's worth). I have my fingers crossed!! I'm taking my meds and hoping they DRY UP FAST!

Good luck, sending you healing vibes! I have surgery on Monday.

How did your surgery go, Seatle?

I did my ten day blended liquid diet and the day before my surgery was supposed to happen (would have been yesterday) - the surgery coordinator called and said they prefer to wait. Which is fine with me because this stupid shingles rash HURTS! So, now my surgery is scheduled for May 17th. NOT TOO far out. It will be ok :)

Surgery went well. Came home on Wednesday afternoon. No nausea at all but struggling with serious gas pain. Getting much better sleep now that I'm home. I'm talking walks and GasX strips but the relief is minimal. Struggling with getting in my fluids. Thanks for asking!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
