Does anyone know if there's any connection between bypass and menstrual cramps? I had my bypass on March 13. This is my first period then and I am having the worst cramps I've ever had. Anyone experienced this? Or is it just a coincidence? Thank you

I was going to post this same question! I had my sleeve on March 20th, and the first day of my period had me completely bloated and was painful high in my abdomen. I rested all day. The second day had horrible cramps (more typical period feeling).

What I did was go out for a longish walk that had a long, steep hill. Worked me out good. Cramps went right away! Today (day 3) I feel pretty normal.

I hope things won't be so bad going forward!

If you search the forum this is a very common occurrence. Your hormones go nuts after surgery and is very common to get a very strong period a few days postop. I think it's your body's way of saying pregnancy is not going to happen right now.

So far (knock on wood!) I haven't had any problems myself, but it seems to be very very common to have changes due to the hormonal shifts happening. From what I've read, it seems to sort itself out with time...

I'm almost 6 months post sleeve and everything about my cycles intensified right away, I just say my gyno earlier this month and she advised that if it continues, she wants me to call her. She advised that it is very common to notice that cramps, bleeding, and bloating have intensified post sleeve/bypass, but advised that should run its course after a few months and we need to start looking at other causes if it doesn't normalize. Just food for thought,

Did anyone notice if their Water retention/weight gain intensified after getting the sleeve as well? I have been sticking to the diet and making sure to keep my Fluid intake up...but it seems that I'm retaining water worse than I had before. It may also go hand in hand with the intensified period, bleh.

I too was concerned about this. I got an IUD implanted August 1, because dr said that the pill won't work after surgery. So, I was on my period then. That last a week. Then a week and half without period. Then about the 18th, it started again. I figured when I went in on the 25 for my surgery, it was just about over. Nope...came home and it's intensified, and still here!!! ANNOYING!!! I've been a little crampy, but mainly just annoyed!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
