I got a Roux and Y on April 12th and was discharged the 13th. That day at the hospital I was doing laps around others in the hall. I know some motivation was to get the gas out and to be released from the hospital. I'm off all pain meds, went to church today and the park with the family. I've walked 3 miles today. I've been persistent about getting my Water and Protein in since my doc has me on this diet until 2 weeks from the surgery. My wife has kind of freaked out thinking I'm doing so well trying to make me go to bed or lay down but I wanna get out and get moving so I can get this weight off. I've lost 14 lbs since the day of surgery and that has given me some super motivation to keep on pushing. Is this normal for recovery? Do most people snap back this quick? I've read some people taking off around 2 weeks. I'm excited about going to work tomorrow for half a day. Is this normal?

Hello, I had the same surgery on the same day! And I was also doing laps in the hospital that day, have been off pain meds and been going since I've been home, I'm down 12lbs, not sure if it's normal was wondering that myself but glad I'm not alone.

I think the standard response for this is that each an every one of us will have different reactions initially to the surgery. I have mine next monday and your post gives me hope that my reaction can be similar to yours. I've read others that were different.

Super glad you both have had such a positive experience outside of surgery. congratulations.

I had the Roux-En-Y on 20 October 2016 and I bounced right back. No pain meds, no complications, no issues (other than eating too fast or not chewing my food enough). I will be 6 months out on Thursday and I am currently at my surgeon's weight loss goal for me. Everyone is different, some bounce right back, some do not. Some lose the weight rapidly, some lose it slowly. Everyone's weight loss experience seems to be different.

I never took pain meds after surgery. Not even in the hospital. And since last week I have been walking 2-3.5 miles a day. Oh surgery was just 2 weeks ago today. I start softball tomorrow and bowl

I am 8 days out of surgery and my story hasn't been easy in the least. I don't seem to have the energy to get up from the chair and walk to the bedroom. I am completely wiped out. I went for a ride with my husband to his parents and the walk from the car to the house took all I had. completed winded me. Showering winds me. I can't seem to muster the strength to fold laundry. I was pretty active prior to this surgery.

I can't take in a deep breathe, or cough. I can't get in the required portien or Water. I breathe heavy while siting in my chair, like an old man that smoked for 40 years. and I'm a non smoker. I am actually becoming concerned.

Neon, my experience is a bit like yours. I am 15 days post op from RNY. Firstly, I was surprised that they kept me in the hospital for 4 days. I recover a bit more energy each day, but I'm not running laps. I am older, so I'm chalking it up to that and the issues I had with pain meds. I think it took me the first week to get all of that out of my system. I don't feel hungry or that I'm lacking energy from calorie deficit (I know what that tired feels like). Everyone is different. We each have to listen to the body and be kind to ourselves. For those bouncing back quickly, KUDOS! That is wonderful, though don't overdo it. That is easy to do when you feel OK. I'm new to this forum and look forward to the support.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
