Colgan Wilson 1 Posted April 16, 2017 Is a long weekend enough time for post op. I currently have an office job and do pretty well with pain and meds. Or am I just crazy to try it? 1 3boysmama reacted to this
Coah 37 Posted April 16, 2017 Gas pain was an issue for me until about day 5-6. The very low calories is the real issue. You're just wiped. 3 mustanglauri, hopekate and 3boysmama reacted to this
JillyT 9 Posted April 17, 2017 Agree, you'll need a week. You'll be so tired you just want / need to sleep a lot. 1 Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
GMen88 70 Posted April 17, 2017 I had my sleeve done on a long weekend (had it done on a Thursday, and was off that Friday for a county holiday) and I thought I'd be good to go by Monday to return to work. I was wrong. Those gas pains and having literally 0% energy cause me to not be able to go back to work until the following Thursday. So I was out for a week. And Im glad I was. That week was really necessary for me. 2 Newme17 and Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
Deactivatedfatgal 377 Posted April 17, 2017 I took a week and a day off, need every bit of it
catlady.2012 22 Posted April 17, 2017 Would recommend at least a week off, two if you can. It's hard to imagine all the adjustments after surgery with Proteins, liquids, and meds/supplements. Once gas pains subsided I was fine from surgery, but working on sip, sip, sipping and NO ENERGY can drag you down. But all are different. kins117 104 Posted April 17, 2017 I'm currently 5 days post op. I could have gone back to work today but am waiting another week.
renjay 0 Posted April 17, 2017 I took a 6 week MLOA and needed every minute of it. One week off from work is not enough time to heal from a major surgery. Give yourself some time heal!
Pescador 1,374 Posted April 18, 2017 I was in the hospital about 8 hours, took one pain pill a,t home, and was shopping the mall within 3 days. I was 67 then. Some people need rest, but I was energized and happy. Still am 4 years later.
LivsMum 9 Posted April 18, 2017 I was ready to go back to work, office job, after 1 week off. That said, everyone is different. I recommend planning for one week and if you can go back sooner - you're good to go.
LosinLiz82316 21 Posted April 19, 2017 Gas pain was my biggest issue. If you can have a heating pad and walk around a bit then you should be fine. I was off pain meds the day I left the hospital. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday.
SassyScienceNerd 213 Posted April 22, 2017 I'm 3 days out and I can't fathom going to work on Monday like I'd hoped. Luckily I can take off some extra time and work from home for a bit as well.
Jen-2+1 131 Posted April 23, 2017 I didn't have much pain at all, but I was so tired. I was in bed for the better part of four days, then half way through the fifth day I started to feel more like myself. By one week I was good to go, but a long weekend would not have been enough for me.
Ms. Brightside 121 Posted April 24, 2017 My surgeon recommends 2 weeks for most folks, however he will ok 1 week for those with a sedentary desk job. I'm planning on taking off 10 days.
Newsoulz 11 Posted April 24, 2017 I work a desk job and planned to go back one week after surgery. I ended up waiting one more day, going back doing half days for two days and one full day. I was so exhausted by Friday I didn't have any energy and slept all day. You are going through a major surgery and you are not getting the calories your body is used to getting. Gas pains and nausea aside, your energy levels will be depleted. Definitely take the time to recover fully.
