Agree, you'll need a week. You'll be so tired you just want / need to sleep a lot.

I had my sleeve done on a long weekend (had it done on a Thursday, and was off that Friday for a county holiday) and I thought I'd be good to go by Monday to return to work. I was wrong. Those gas pains and having literally 0% energy cause me to not be able to go back to work until the following Thursday. So I was out for a week. And Im glad I was. That week was really necessary for me.

Would recommend at least a week off, two if you can. It's hard to imagine all the adjustments after surgery with Proteins, liquids, and meds/supplements.

Once gas pains subsided I was fine from surgery, but working on sip, sip, sipping and NO ENERGY can drag you down. But all are different.

I'm currently 5 days post op. I could have gone back to work today but am waiting another week.

I took a 6 week MLOA and needed every minute of it. One week off from work is not enough time to heal from a major surgery. Give yourself some time heal!

I was in the hospital about 8 hours, took one pain pill a,t home, and was shopping the mall within 3 days. I was 67 then. Some people need rest, but I was energized and happy. Still am 4 years later.

I was ready to go back to work, office job, after 1 week off.

That said, everyone is different. I recommend planning for one week and if you can go back sooner - you're good to go.

Gas pain was my biggest issue. If you can have a heating pad and walk around a bit then you should be fine. I was off pain meds the day I left the hospital. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday.

I'm 3 days out and I can't fathom going to work on Monday like I'd hoped. Luckily I can take off some extra time and work from home for a bit as well.

I didn't have much pain at all, but I was so tired. I was in bed for the better part of four days, then half way through the fifth day I started to feel more like myself. By one week I was good to go, but a long weekend would not have been enough for me.

My surgeon recommends 2 weeks for most folks, however he will ok 1 week for those with a sedentary desk job.

I'm planning on taking off 10 days.

I work a desk job and planned to go back one week after surgery. I ended up waiting one more day, going back doing half days for two days and one full day. I was so exhausted by Friday I didn't have any energy and slept all day.

You are going through a major surgery and you are not getting the calories your body is used to getting. Gas pains and nausea aside, your energy levels will be depleted. Definitely take the time to recover fully.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
