Hi everyone! So I am currently on my 2 week diet before surgery. And I was wondering if it would be okay if I had a piece of ham tomorrow at dinner? Normally i can only eat the product from my doctors office but I wasn't sure if a cheat meal would be Okay!

Ps. I have already lost 10 pounds in 5 days from this diet.

If you're serious about this surgery, you wouldn't question if you should sneak in ham. Obviously you're going to do what you want but you have to keep your eye on the prize and stick to the diet your surgeon gave you.

I would say no to the ham and stick to your diet plan.

It's great that you've lost weight in the pre-op phase, but remember, the main reason you are doing the pre-op is so that the size of your liver will be reduced and it will be easier for them to get to your stomach. Following the diet plan they give you helps to do that.

I wouldn't. Making good decisions about food and drink is central to this journey. Don't start out making a decision that goes against the directions of your doctor. He/she has asked you to do this pre-op liquid diet for a reason. It isn't about weight loss.

Good luck!

It depends upon what your diet requires. For many diets, that wouldn't be a cheat at all, but for others it would be. My guess is that by asking, it isn't on your plan so I wouldn't do it without asking (the doc's staff) first.

That's a lean Protein it shouldn't hurt but be strong and keep it at a minimal. I'm sure these questions crossed everyone's mind pre op. You aren't alone I asked my doctors the same question and my surgery is Tuesday. There is no such thing as a perfect sleever

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
