I'm getting my lapband removed on 4/24/17 after a year of difficulty, gaining weight back originally lost 80 lbs have gained back 55 lbs after having Fluid out then put back in when I had breast reduction surgery performed a year ago. Have reflux and spasms diagnosed with esophageal dysmotility common problem with band. My surgeon is removing it then I am told I have to wait 4-6 months to get converted to gastric bypass. I'm 66 years old going to be 67 in October. Frustrated that I have to wait. Able to eat much more then before thank God but scared to death I will gain all my weight back. Has anyone else had to wait that long and how did they do? I have great respect for my surgeon and would not go to anyone else.

I had my lapband out 1/12/17 and will have bypass on 4/24. In the process I am exactly where I was 7 yrs ago when I got the band in 2010-80 lbs back on. Annoyed at myself but ready for my new beginning. I was told less complications if you heal after they remove the band. I also had to have an endoscopy nutrition and psych again. It does feel like a long time, but I also know I am ready now. Your time will go fast and your body be ready for the bypass. To 4/24! Our new beginning - Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
