Sipping through a straw

Recommended Posts

This topic is so interesting to me! I've been out and about and accidentally sipped through a straw since being banded. My daughter and BF will grab it out of my drink and say, "no!" I get miffed because so far, nothing has happened - I didn't even notice I was using a straw! And, I have a weird hang up about drinking from the glass...forks, spoons, etc - Fine. A glass??? Ick.

So, I think I'll start slowly on the straw thing. I've been missing it.

I asked my doc at my apt last night (by the way he and his wife are both banded) and he said the only issue with a straw is that you may find you have a little more gas due to the air but that was the worst of it. He said if I didn't notice the gas then don't worry about it. He also agreed that sometimes it can slow down your drinking if you are still having trouble being more of a sipper (which I am).

Funny you say that...my twin had RNY and she won't use a straw.

Can't remember the reason. But she says it's better for your teeth to use a straw. I'll have to ask her when I see her at Christmas time.

Good post!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
