I will be 61next month and I am waiting on my surgery date. I am wishing that I would have done this sooner but I am not regretting this decision of mine one bit. I have always been late in doing things. I became a first time mom at 53 to two beautiful children (I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 25) I got my Harley last year for my birthday and this year is my VGS. My reason is to improve my health and to see these two rugrats grow up. I am glad to find this forum as I was starting to think I was the only one over 60 having this done.

I'm 61 and my surgery is tomorrow the 17th. I'm very nervous but hearing from others in the same age group helps so much. It's been 6 months since I started this journey and I can't believe it's here. Good luck to you

I came home from the hospital yesterday morning after my surgery Monday late afternoon. Everything went text book according to my doctor. I have a pump inserted for direct site pain relief and have only used 2 pain pills. I am able to walk around easily and the only gas pain i had was right after the surgery. I'm feeling pretty good and am very happy that everything went so well.

I am so glad to hear that you are doing ok and that you have not taken hardly any pain meds. This is just awesome. Were you in only one night? I am very happy for you. Did you take anything for the gas problems? I am sorry for all the questions. Take care and remember that you are on the uphill side now.

Please keep me posted on how you are doing?

I stayed 1 night in the hospital i came out of recovery at 8 pm the night before and was discharged at 11am the next day. I did have gas pain right after in recovery but not after that. I'm so very happy and grateful that it went so well I was very nervous. I still have the pain med pump inserted but will be removed by Friday. I plan on returning on Monday the 24th. Hope this helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
