How to not be hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am getting my MGB surgery on May 16th, and I had a question for you guys who have already done it.

Do you actually feel hungry or not? Or is it just that you know your stomach can't handle much food? Like do you actually feel full or what? Do small portions feel satisfying? I'm a little confused about how surgery with change my body. Any comments are appreciated. :D

Absolutely will feel hungry.. with just two or three bites you won't be able to eat any more because your going to feel pressure in the chest. As for feeling satisfied.. I personally don't feel satisfied, but your new stomach won't allow you to eat more then will fit in your stomach. What I can tell you honestly is that post surgery your cravings will be there.. you still feel hungry. I am post surgery 4 months now and it is at this point that I am starting to eat a bit more of regular food, still no more then 4 ounces. Can't tolerate water... salad.. nothing that is to dry. Foods need to be moist.. Good luck be absolutely sure because once this is done you can't undo it..

Yes I started to feel hunger after the first month - but only after about 3 hours. Any hunger during that 3 hours is usually because I need to drink more Fluid or I didn't eat enough dense Protein or I'm bored. My NUT has her patients eating 5 mini-meals a day - that really helps with not getting that starving hunger feeling.

That is what I have started to do myself. Having more frequent meals.. but smaller or healthy Snacks. I get hungry within two hours but it all depends what I ate.. can get hungry sooner then two hours.

The mornings are the worst...Feel like I haven't eaten in days..:(

I do feel hungry but not like I used to, my stomach doesn't growl or anything. Its more likely getting hungry from the neck up (mouth watering and "head hunger") I'm 6 months post RNY.

I do feel satisfied after eating a small amount, but I don't really feel full. I just stop eating because I don't feel hungry anymore. I've only eaten too much for the pouch a handful of times. It feels very uncomfortable but unfortunately I can't tell its happening until its too late. It usually when I'm doing something else while eating mindlessly.

I am one of the LUCKY ones!! I had my RNY July 2, 2013. Lost below my goal weight in 6 months, I weighed 117's. I did gain back 8's which I feel so much better. It is weird how just 8#'s made such a difference. I have maintained my `125# weight for over 3 years. Now for why I am lucky. I still feel no hunger!!! No physcial hunger but I do deal with mind hunger a lot. I had some problems with strictures (like scar tissue) I feel like that was the reason I lost so fast!! But hey I'm not complaining!! I am so glad that I had my WLS!! It is one of the best things I have done for myself and my family. Just remember each person has their own journey and no 2 are alike!! Good Luck

I am almost 5 months out from surgery. I also don't get hungry. And I have had the full feeling since the first day they allowed me to start drinking fluids. So it is different for everyone. I follow a schedule in order to make sure I get in my Protein and fluids. I do realize that if I don't eat every few hours I get tired. But I have no hunger feelings.

I got the surgery about 4 weeks ago, and Yes, you do feel hungry. Your mind plays tricks on you, telling you you want food but once you eat broth or a yogurt your hunger goes away plus you get full so quick. I have been doing well so far, but I do get hungry Ill snack on a cracker, or drink more Water and I'm full. You will do fine, it's what we all want, to eat less now we have a tool that helps us do that.

That's right@MarinaGirl. Everyone is different. There is no guarantee someone is going to ever feel hungry after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
