Driving after surgery

Recommended Posts

I stopped taking my pain meds when I got home and I drove within 48 hours of surgery, not far but I really needed a pedicure, lol.

I was told that I should wait at least a week, but also that as long as I'm not on narcotics and I feel comfortable, it would be fine to drive whenever.

My surgery date is April 25(2days before my birthday). I was wondering how long did you wait before driving?

I started driving on day 7 after my surgery. It's not that you can't drive but you must take in account that your reflexes are slow and that you are weak and lightheaded. You could get into an accident if you can't react on time. Try getting an UBER and you will be safer.

I was about 4 days. I only took a narcotic once and that was right after the surgery in the recovery room because they wanted to get me up to the bathroom. So I was fine to drive....

I'm almost three weeks out and not driving. My incisions (7) make me a bit slow; I'm afraid to drive with hampered reflexes.

I'm was sleeved on Friday, home on Sunday, and took my kids to achool Monday morning. As long as you are not on narcotics for pain, then my Surgeon gave me the ok to drive.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
