Hi y'all

I recently booked my consultation for my gastric sleeve procedure. I've been thinking a lot lately about the loose skin after major weight loss. How bad really is it?? I've heard some people have no problems and I've heard others that needed a lot of plastic surgery to fix it. I'm 19 years old and about 300 lbs. Is there any chance the excess skin might not be tooooo bad? My mom was originally on board for this whole thing, but she remembered that aspect and now is trying to talk me out of the surgery.

Thank you in advance!

Everyone is different. You are young so you will snap back better than most people.

Loose skin isn't a reason to not have surgery.

Everyone is different. Genetics plays a role, but The younger you are the more likely you won't be as bad.

As you get older the skin loses its elasticity. Also, the longer you have the weight on, the more damage it will do to your skin.

My mother would have talked me out of the surgery too- she is a huge part of my life long struggle with my weight. I could go into a huge vent, but I'll spare you, lol.

Do this for YOU. You have your whole life and future ahead of you and with a lighter and healthier body you will have fewer limitations.

Loose skin is secondary and may not be an issue at all for you.

I've been doing a lot of research on ways to help mitigate the loose skin issue because I've been worried about it too. So far, I've been able to come up with (1) Dry brushing skin on a regular basis to increase blood flow and circulation (helps encourage cell turnover) (2) massage, again to increase blood flow (3) castor oil as a moisturizer, (4) compression/support garments just to help reduce possibly painful friction or pinching (5) sunscreen to protect and then, good ol' genetics and hydration.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
