Help! I'm not losing weight... Stall

Recommended Posts

Ok- I need help. I have stopped losing weight at 4 months out. 61 lbs down. Here's the kicker... I am disabled (I have MS) can't just get up and walk. So exercise options are minimal. My caloric intake is about 800 calories. Any words of wisdom of what to do to help kickstart my weight loss again?

Hello,

I am just about 5 months out and I've had a few stalls along the way..... they happen.

But for the last couple of months I have been steadily losing weight.

What is working for me:

Keeping my carbs under 35 grams a day. Making sure I get 100 grams of Protein a day. Drinking at least 80 ounces of fluids a day. My calories are between 800-900 daily. Doing those things, I generally lose between 3-4 pounds a week. I track everything with myfitnesspal, it helps me a lot.

I am also not exercising at all, unfortunately. I have 2 incisional hernias (one quite large) that give me a lot of pain. Also dealing with constant abdominal pain and Constipation. I can hardly wait to lose a little more weight and have my hernia surgery, because I can't wait to be able to exercise.

Hope that helps.

At four months post-op, your calories might be a little low. At that point, I was averaging around 1000 calories per day. (For reference, I am 6'0", and at that time, I weighed around 230.)

What is your carb intake on an average day? Protein? Are you meeting your Water goals each day?

At this stage of the game, weight loss is mostly about consumption, not exercise, so that's why I'm asking these questions to see if there is something about your consumption habits that might be affecting your progress.

Wow! Your NUT told you 100 grams of carbs and mine told me 50. Both are way too high.

I didn't lose weight for 3 weeks straight when I listened to my NUT and kept my carbs just under 50.

Then when I dropped my carbs to under 35 grams a day, the weight started coming off and it hasn't stopped since. And if you can go even lower with your carbs like others said... even better!

If you are doing what your NUT said, but you are not getting the results you want, try something different.

@JustMe40

You don't have to exercise to lose weight. You just need to intake fewer calories than your body burns. My RMR is 1900 a day, that is how many calories I would burn a day if I laid in bed and didn't move all day, that is just the base level my body needs to function. Most people don't have to eat a huge daily deficit to intake less than they burn. Don't think that having MS and limited mobility will hold you back. You just have to work a little harder at controlling your food. That is why eat less than 25G of carbs a day, net carbs, you can subtract the Fiber, would really help someone like you. Good luck!

BTW your weight loss so far is right on track. Good job.

I too was at a stall in weight lost. I had lost 91.6 pounds total. I had my sleeve done 11/15/16 and since then I lost 43 before surgery and 48.6 after sleeve. I then noticed I was getting up at night wanting to snack so I would eat Greek yogurt or drink water! I was exercising like crazy. What I did was do two days of liquid diet to try and jump start my weight list and eliminate my cravings and its helped. I lost 3 pounds this week. I'm going to watch my carb intake from day forward. I'm going to try and keep it 35-30 & under a day!!!! I hope this works. Thank you folks for the advice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
