The best way to measure you food is to weigh it. Pretty much weigh everything if you can. :)

This was confusing to me as well, but my nut provided weight guidelines, and I'm finding using a scale is quite simple and accurate.

I'm still in purees, so I have a little bowl, zero out the bowl, put the food in it, then heat if necessary.

Either way, really - whatever is most convenient for you. If you consider that in these early mushy and soft phases most foods are close to the density of Water (which scientifically is the measurement standard as 1oz volume = 1 oz weight) then it doesn't really matter. I find weighing to be much more convenient as one isn't continually cleaning measuring cups and spoons; even when cooking I rarely use measuring cups as the European method of weighing things is a lot easier.

Use a scale 100% of the time.. you can't eyeball 4 oz's. Also weigh stuff after its cooked. Dont measure out 4oz of ground beef to make a hamburger. Make yourself 2 and then weigh out 4 oz. dont forget the cheese .. one slice usually equals an oz. 4 or 5 months in I was totally stalled. I left my scale at my parents house and was totally eating more than I should. Bought a new scale and immediately got back on track. Also a 1/2 a cup of veggies is 4oz's. Took me a while to figure that out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
