Surgery Tomorrow I'm So Scared

Recommended Posts

Can't believe my day has come. I've been trying to mentally prepare but now that the time has come I'm petrified. So many thoughts running through my head. Worried about not waking up and uncontrollable pain when I awaken from surgery. I'm being revised from Sleeve to RNY due to severe GERD having hernia repair as well. Been on Clear liquids only all day just feeling awful in every way.

Your nervousness is completely normal. You'll be fine, I promise! Let your surgical team know about your anxiety, especially your anesthesiologist. They should be able to give you something to help you relax (I called it "happy juice" lol). That's what they're there for, to help make this as comfortable as possible for you! And when you wake up, you won't feel a thing. You'll feel like you've woken up from a nice nap. Think about why you're having the procedure and how much better you'll feel once you have no more heartburn! AND you'll lose more weight! So you'll feel better overall! Remember we're all here for you if you need us!

Anticipation is the worst. I'm pre op for RNY, but I have had a number of surgeries on my belly that are similar because of it being laporoscopic. The air they put in your belly sucks, but when you walk that will subside. You may be a bit more sore do to having 2 procedures in one.
Voice all of your concerns in pre op. The doctor will see you before you go in. Anesthesiologist will also see you prior. Tell them what you are worried about and they can reassure you before surgery. You will have a pre op nurse too and you can chat with them also.
You will be on good pain meds and anti nausea meds too. If you're having more pain than you can handle, speak up and tell your nurse. They want your pain under control and have you as comfortable as possible. You will be ok. Every day you'll feel better, give it time.
Good luck and God bless! I'll keep you in my thoughts!
You got this!

Ugh I hated that gas they pumped me with because pre-op I weighed 237. Post-op it put me up to 248. Between that and all the IV fluids, I thought "this can't be right" lol. But you're right, walking often is the best way to get rid of it.

@nocturnalgemi thank you for your kind words and support. I'm definitely going to share with my surgical team/anesthesiologist about my anxiety. From your lips to Gods ears that I will wake up like I've had a long nap and not feel a thing.

I understand...we all do. I didn't sleep a wink the night before, and I was his first surgery that morning. Your surgical team does this all the time and can tell when patients are anxious. Mine certainly did. It will be over before you know it. [emoji4]

@ColleenErin1974 anticipation is no joke 💯!! Thank you for the suggestions and keeping me in your thoughts.

Anticipation can really mess with you. Take deep breaths and remember why you're doing this in the first place. You are in my thoughts!

Feel free to PM me anytime if you need to chat! 😀

I understand you. I been having sleepless night dreaming about my sleeve surgery. I'm worrying that something might go wrong.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
