PRE-OP AND MORE SCARED THAN EVER!

Recommended Posts

I was comfortable with my decision to do the gastric sleeve surgery. During all of my required tests and procedures, I am finding a lot of things wrong with me. One thing that came up was a "female issue" which I needed to go in and have an out patient procedure done this past Friday. Because of my sleep apnea, they decided to use a breathing tube, even though it was just a 30-45 minute procedure. Well apparently at some point I stopped breathing and they couldn't wake me from the anesthesia for about 2 hours. Has anyone had this experience and then were ok for a major surgery? I am so scared to go under anesthesia again, and I still have at least 3 more minor procedures that I need to be put under for. If i continue to have these problems, could I be rejected for the surgery? I am glad I am finding all of these things, but I am so tired of getting bad news around every corner. Then to get through all of this and be told I am too much of a risk will really put me over the edge. I know they need to do what is best for my health (and life), but I won't know what to do if I can't get this help. I have lost almost 30 pounds on my own so far, but I don't know how much more I can do on my own due to physical constraints.

I pray no one else goes through this, but if there is anyone that can provide some advice on how you handled these issues it would be appreciated.

I'm so sorry. That's scary! I'm sure they will make that call for you. I don't have a lot to add just wanted to wish you luck.

I would think they would have you lose more weight to improve your sleep apnea in order to make you a safe candidate for the surgery. I don't think they would cancel at first just delay until you get the issue better controlled. I remember when I had to lose weight pre- op I put myself in a "zone" of controlled thinking about no carbs, Protein & Protein Drinks. I was able to lose the needed weight to be approved. Good luck to you.

Now that they are aware of these issues, it would seem like an advantage and they can be proactive during surgeries going forward. And I agree losing some more pounds to help with the sleep apnea will move the wls forward. If you don't keep going forward where will you be next year? (A permanently ill person on a cpap machine).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
