As each day passes and my surgery grows closer, I think of how my life will change.
I wonder what will it be like to eat to live instead of living to eat. What will I do instead of eating?

What do I look forward to if I am not eating? I have built my life around eating.

Vacation meals will no longer be a focus point. Family gatherings will be for the family instead

of the food at the gatherings. Wednesday night Mexican with my daughter will be just for my daughter

instead of what I am going to be eating. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be strange.

Sorry folks, just thinking out loud! I hope I can do this!

I'm 3 weeks post op, and all I can think of is getting in my food and fluids. It's a full time job! I think it will be a relief when things become more normal with meals.

I think we all imagine food will not exist after surgery, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

I find since I'm not hungry, I can take the time to cook a nice meal for the kids. I'm not stuffed, so it doesn't sicken me to have to cook for my son an hour after we ate (he has unusual dietary needs).

In other words, I feel normal now in a way that I couldn't have anticipated... and I didn't realize how abnormal things were before!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
