Anyone else kicking a bad diet soda habit??

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I'm one week from my surgery and really only struggling with one thing... I am a TERRIBLY mentally dependent on diet coke/coke zero. I have to a day and am literally counting the days I still can drink them....that sounds so bad I know. I guess I'm just curious and looking for some encouragement. Has anyone totally lost their desire for diet coke after surgery?

Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.

I quit buying them for the entire family so out wasn't available then i subbed out with Crystal light and Vitamin Water zero. I had a headache but it's been 3 weeks with out a soda[emoji16]honestly, I don't feel better or worse. But I do feel that addiction is in control before my surgery in 18 days[emoji16] good luck!

Not had fizzy for over a week too and I feel much better since the shakes went. Do miss them but my liver must be rejoicing in their lol.

A week on Tuesday and we will be done!

It is hard to kick the soda addiction, but know that you are better off without it. I had a close friend who drank Diet Coke for years. She would have between 6-10 a day! A few years back she started to become gravely ill. She had all the signs and symptoms of MS. She had severe leg pain, loss of mobility, tremors, headaches, fibromyalgia, insomnia, and the list goes on. Come to find out, that after all the MS testing was done, she did NOT have it. She stumped the doctors. I told her regularly to stop the soda addiction, but she just couldn't go without it.
After more issues, out of work on disability, and more doctors, we found out what was wrong with her! She had toxic levels of asperitame in her system! This unnatural sweetener was in all respects, killing her. She did slowly phase the soda out of her life and slowly her issues started to resolve. Unfortunately, the damage is done and irreversible. She will always have lingering problems and symptoms.
You would think that her finding out this, that she would never touch the stuff again, but she started drinking it again and low and behold, she remained sick and her symptoms started again!
Asperitame is very dangerous and should not be consumed ever. The withdrawal will suck big time, but your health is more precious than you know. Quit the soda ASAP, and you will do well! Good luck!

I quit drinking pop... Coke Zero or Diet Coke about 2 months ago now. I went through the headaches and body aches. I'm better now, but picked up drinking coffee in the morning... I'm sure that's no good and I'll need to quit that too

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
