Need list of high protein foods

Recommended Posts

I am trying to wean myself off of the Protein Shakes and onto more solid foods to get the required Protein. Any ideas on high protein foods to replace the shakes? I had my surgery one month ago so I can eat soft foods. My surgeon encourages eating rather than drinking protein at this stage to get metabolism to kick in. Eating meat gives me stomach pain unless it's pureed and most meats taste yucky pureed. I have bought some baby food meats but they are only 8 grams of protein. Appreciate your replies!

After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as steaks. So this is what I relied upon. I made my own high Protein chili and soups. I have included recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Do you like fish? try a baked white fish. Swai is really soft when you bake it. I have a recipe in the recipe section and that is pretty much all I ate the first 3 months.

This is pretty spot on.

My support nurse said baby food is for babies. For soft foods, meat is not an option unless it's super fine/chopped.

The dannon triple zero Greek yogurt (oikios) has 15 grams of Protein.

I get most of my food protein from baked white fish (talapia and Cod are my favs). I am away and had salmon (3oz was my max) and had that several times but I made sure to CHEW it a long time before swallowing the white fish is definilty easier to chew into small pieces

Okios tastes good, but sends me to the toilet. Tastes are such an individual thing. I recommend spending 15 minutes in the yogurt section comparing brands. Those that say they contain live and active cultures will help with gut health.

Maybe grab a handful of different small containers to do a taste test...

Greek yogurt- i like fage.
Low fat cheeses
Boneless skinless chicken breast - i use oven bags so it's not dry
Deli meat
Shakes
Super lean (92% lean ground beef)
Ground turkey (which i despise)
Shrimp
Crabs
Tofu/ tempeh. I like tempeh more
Beans- all of them.

There are tons of Protein rich foods hat you can eat. Have fun with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
