Slippage & Hiccups

Recommended Posts

Im not certain what's going on here but last night I ate some sandwich meat, cheese, and some chips at my parents house. I started to hiccup uncontrollably and this morning I woke up and my stomach and mid back hurt. I've been feeling like this all day long and I'm concerned that my band might have slipped. I was afriad to anything solid for lunch so I went to Chili's and purchased enchilada Soup. I had two crackers and the pain was excruciating. Does anyone have any idea as to what symptoms one would have if the band slips. Also, what causes hiccups? PLEASE HELP!

I hiccup a lot after I eat, I also burp a lot while I'm eating. I dunno why, but every time I go to the doc he says everything looks great so I suppose it's not causing any damage. I've always read that if your band slips you'll know it because you'll be able to eat a large amount of food again like before you were banded.

You may have eaten too much or too fast. Or not chewed well enough which irritated your stoma. When I start hiccuping, I know I need to stop eating, but sometimes I hiccup an hour after I ate. A slip is different for different people. With mine, I couldn't tolerate any solid food. Some people have no restriction and can eat alot again. Just take it easy and get to see your doctor if you don't feel better soon.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
