I am on a pre-op diet too. I'm thinking of it as practice for the changes I'll have to make. I don't know about your situation but in my case the weight loss is to shrink my liver so that I can have a smoother, safer surgery. My doc showed me pics of how doing the surgery looks with a plumped up liver vs. one where the pt lost weight and trust me, if this is your situation also you want to give your surgeon a straight shot, not a chubby fatty liver getting in the way.

Weirdly I haven't been having any cravings (unusual for me) but if I were to I would just remind myself I want to set myself up for the best possible surgical outcome.

I'm the 18th April and struggling a bit too but all I ate was a single oven chip. I do suggest buckling down from now - if you aren't compliant with this diet, how are you gonna manage the rest of your life.

I ain't an angel and won't preach when I've slipped took but we got this, just reset tomorrow!

So my surgery is April 17 and I am not doing well with my liquid diet! So today I at a BBQ whopper with fries. I mean wth is my problem?

The first few days of a liquid diet suck. You don't have a problem, you're body is used to your old behaviors. You need to get in the mind set that puts you and your new state of mind before everything. You will be changing your whole way of life and subconsciously you may be sabotaging yourself without even realizing it. We all didn't get to where we are in a couple of days, so be easy on yourself. It will take time and a good attitude to break out of your old routine. If you get hungry while on the liquid diet, try something that may help satisfy you. You can't chew liquids, so you may not feel satisfied. Try some sugar free Gelatin, sugar free Popsicles, and such. I like crunching on ice cubes.

This is a long hard journey, so don't give up because you slipped. Recognize that this isn't going to be easy, but one day at a time you will get there.

You got this!!

No kidding!!!! I am having my surgery on the 24th, so Im seven days into my pre op diet and it's a real struggle. I did great the first three days. had the headaches and feet pain, but by Easter Sunday I just needed to chew something and I chose a handful of bbq potato chips and a very small brownie, the size of a quarter. Today, (monday) I am craving more chips. I'm not hungry, but craving... I know this is the rest of my life and I need to make changes, but the cravings are fierce.

So, I'm going to get back on the wagon right now, and do my very best. I wonder if there is a weight loss requirement pre surgery (day of surgery)

Excited, but also nervous about my liver now!!!

My advice, throw the chips in the trash. Its easier to avoid trigger foods if it means you have to make a shopping trip to get them. The family should be understanding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
