Recommended Posts

Looking for anyone with fibro who have been sleeved. Are you still taking meds? Any change in pain?

I also have fibro. In talking with my primary physician, she indicated that there may be some worsening in pain initially. I get sleeved on 4/17. Hoping for some pain relief from the fibro as I lose weight!

I have fibro and was sleeved on Feb 27th and so far am about 40 pounds down and have not noticed much of a difference with the pain. The fatigue is much worse now too. Fatigue from hardly eating and then the fatigue from fibro if I could sleep all day I would. Medication wise I am not sure what you take for fibro so not sure what to tell you. I am only on Cymbalta and a pain medicine along with a muscle relaxer because Gabapentin and Lyrica do nothing for me but make me feel foggy. Your surgeon will tell you what you can and can't take after surgery. Pain for me after surgery was nothing because I am used to being in pain it is the fatigue that is the worst part and seems to be neverending. Hope this helps. Any other questions feel free to ask.

I have fibro and will be getting sleeved on April 13th. I'm looking forward to the weight loss and Pray that I get some relief from the pain. I do know that the fatigue may get a little worse at the beginning as we won't eat much but hopefully the additional Vitamins will help. I hope that once we get down to a routine and get to know our bodies a little more then we can find something that work for us. Maybe talking to our primary care doctors to give us Vitamin B12 injections. I've heard some women get a boost from it. My ultimate goal besides from losing weight, I plan to get my pain medication to " as needed" and not every 8 hours. I also take gabapentin and I do get foggy. I pray for you all to have a speedy recovery. We should continue to posts in this thread to share and compare our experiences.

Much love

I am right there with you. I am 60 and having the Sleeve done. I am also wanting more control with my fibromyalgia. It has been a long road but I do see an end in sight and a better lifestyle.

I got sleeved May 1st and now you pain is no longer controlled. It's very difficult to get in the daily walks when you hurt from head to toe literally.

Today is another painful days. However I am going to try to swim however very low impact. I see a pain specialist on Monday and I'm hoping that perhaps they can pull all of my issues together and come up with a better so-called pain cocktail. I want the pain to go away but be able to have a clear mind which is difficult. I also have asked my doctor to look up for my file and see if my gastric sleeve can be converted to the duodenal switch. It has a higher success rate for weight loss and long-term results as far as keeping the weight off. It is what I actually asked for and the doctor would not do it. When I went to my check up yesterday they were disappointed in my weight loss so far even though I've been following the directions as best I can. Since I saw the nurse practitioner I learned that my doctor in the group doesn't do the duodonel switch and it was another. However my doctor didn't refer me to the other doctor so I have asked that the other doctor review my file to see if I would be a candidate as I matchup for everything in the written literature stating I would be a good candidate. I'll let you know how it goes.

Jadeskys Please keep up posted on your progress. I am so sorry that the sleeve has not worked for you. I am still hoping that my sleeve will help with my fibro. I had my procedure on Monday so here is hoping. Take care and prayers.

I will be curious to find out. Since I have Fibro, it will be a journey. One I will be happy, angry, and sad with but need to do.

The surgery pain is not as bad as it was before. However I still cannot go for walks. I am swimming though. I have an appointment to speak with the doctor about furthering my surgery into the DS. The nurse practitioner seemed very excited that he would allow this after reviewing my charts. Even though I am following the very low-carb diet the weight-loss is excessively slow. I know if I could just do more that would help but the Fibromyalgia pain is still there.

I've just completed all the pre-clearance requirements for the insurance. My Dr stated that fibromyalgia does not always improve. My goal is to lose weight. Get off my medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, and move easier.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
