PostOp 8 Months - Terribly Disappointed and Confused

Recommended Posts

Good Morning!

As I mentioned, I am terribly disappointed and confused. I had my bypass last August at a weight of 370. Today I weighed 317. I've been as low as 302.

Since the very beginning, I never felt much restriction. In some cases, I can eat as much as I'd like. I drink my Water. I walk 5x a week. My diet could be cleaner, but it wasn't horrible until recently. I guess I started feeling sorry for myself and started eating crappy.

Has anyone else had an issue with the amount of food they could eat? I read about people living off a golf ball sized amount of food - and at the moment that seems crazy to me!

Also - does anyone have any suggestions? Have you personally or know someone who's experienced this situation?

Thanks!

Sean :)

Did you have RNY? At 8 months post op the weight loss does start to slow and you can eat more. Now you have to follow the rules 3 meals, Protein first, drink 30 mins after meals not with them and exercise 30 mins daily. Don't graze or eat sugar and the weight will still keep coming off.

Don't give up! Keep going try to eat about half of what you usually eat. Thats what bypass has done for me. I eat everything i want but in smaller proportions. Even if it takes you 2 or 3 years you will loose weight. Try staying stong and going for healthy food dont fall back to your old habbits! Lots and lots of luck!

What did your surgeon say about this? Was the volume of the pouch measured?

So how much so you really eat? I know it's annoying as hell but try to keep a food diary for two weeks or so to evaluate how much you really eat in one day (i. e. how many calories).

And what are these cases in which you can eat as much as you like? Does it depend on the food or is it different from day to day?

Hi Sean,

Try not to beat yourself up too much. I'm also about 8.5 mos out from RNY gastric bypass - surgery 8/1/16. In the first 5-6 months, I lost 93 pounds but since then, I've gained a little, lost a little, but my total loss number hasn't budged. I know that personally, the second I let some of my "trigger" foods back into my diet, even in total moderation, that was not my smartest move. While my pouch may be able to tolerate those trigger foods, they are definitely foods that I cannot tolerate and should not consume!!!!

Your stomach does stretch a bit and the amount of food you can consume in one sitting does gradually increase, per my nutritionist. I do find that at times, I seem to be able to eat certain things with ease - too much ease, but then other things, I do remember that my stomach is too small to tolerate large amounts. Talk to your nutritionist - mine is great and really helps me put things in perspective. Perhaps yours has some tips for you / more encouragement.

Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
