Hi all!! I'm really starting to get nervous about surgery, although I started this journey over 2 years ago. Did u sleep the whole time in hospital? I'm worried about being bored :/. Also, I hope I'm able to still make dinners for my family in the first few weeks... thoughts? I have soooo many questions....

After my surgery, I was up an walking every 2 hours round the clock while I was in the hospital. This was to prevent blood clots. It also helped to reduce the gas pain after surgery.

You will have a weight limitation after surgery but I think moving pots and pans are light enough you should not have difficulty in making dinner for your family. You incisions will still be sore so you may want to avoid some to this work in the beginning.

The regiment is fairly complex after surgery when you get home (walking, Vitamins throughout the day, meal size, fluids), so I suspect you will be anything but bored after surgery. It will really keep you hopping.

They pretty much kept me busy after my RNY. I didn't have time to get bored after I went home. I had to sip Water and sip Protein every 15 minutes so I was very busy. Yes I did sleep quite a bit after my surgery but it is different for each of us. Time is spent on learning our new journey. I can bet you are getting nervous and excited about everything. You might want to have someone else do the food prep for awhile. Your body needs to be able to adjust to your new way of life!! Just think this is something that you will be so happy about, it sure fills my heart and I know that I was given the second chance to get my weight off and be able to keep it off this time!! BTW I am over 3 and 1/2 years out. I have been at my goal weight for 3 years!! I went from 249#'s to 117#'s in 6 months. I did gain back 8#'s but just that amount helped me to feel so much better. The lowest weight wasn't good for me at all. So enjoy your time and keep getting excited for your new life!! And KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
