I have my surgical consult next week so I'm still new. I am ready to be healthy and stop yo yo dieting. I have made great changes in lifestyle in the past, given up sugary food, for example.

I like bread and chocolate and ice cream. I am 38 years old and should not have this relationship with food!!

I get scared about the surgery because what if I eat something bad after. I know dumping can occur which may be a big deterrent. But will my constant thinking about food and giving in to that childish want, go away?!

Hi there. I am 45. I love food. Homemade breads with butter and jam and cakes are my biggest issues....and homemade pizza.

I can only Tell you what I am experiencing since my gastric bypass surgery 1 week ago. I feel no hunger, no craving and it is all I can do to push myself to get in enough fluids.

You will do fine. If after a while you have a bite of something you shouldn't, it will probably be a lesson learned. I would hope you are having a bypass done and not a sleeve. You sound like you need the scare of dumping to keep you on the right path (that's why I chose it over a sleeve)

good luck!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
