I'm 5'8 and via a 1 year long liquid diet went from 350 to 180 lbs. 180 for me was perfect for my frame, bearing in mind dome of the extra weight I had from excess skin. I also had a fair bit of muscle as I worked out a lot. Sadly, I'm back to 300 lbs as I get ready to be sleeved.

I think that is what a lot of us have been through - losing weight and then gaining it back. Sometimes I think "hey, you can do this with just a diet, you've done it before". But then I remember that I gained it all back (plus more). It's been such a cycle time and time again. I'm hoping that with the sleeve, when I'm weak, it will help me get through.

When is your surgery?

I just got my date yesterday and will be going in on May 2. My pre op meeting is 4/19, which is my birthday. I think it's kind of poetic[emoji846]. I fall down with the nutrition but actually still work out and see a personal trainer twice a week. I think this will help with my recovery that I'm going in to surgery being pretty fit (for a really fat person anyway).

I thought long and hard about surgery and always thought, let me try one more time on my own. I haven't gotten anywhere except fatter and I thought to myself, what am I waiting for? I don't want to be in this same position in 5 years having been losing and gaining again. So I decided to just do it.

How do you determine body fat? I've always sworn I'm "big boned", but who knows. Maybe I can be small.

The nutritionist has a body composition scale. Immediately prior to surgery I was 44% fat... nice, hey? For a woman my age the healthy range is 21-33% body fat and they recommend the goal being 30%.

How did you or your doctor determine your final goal weight? Doc and I haven't talked about that yet and I'm curious how people calculate it.

My doc basically said that the average weight loss is 30% and that I can expect to lose 90lbs and made that my goal. He said that once I reached that I could work to lose 40 to 50 more but the 90 is the expected goal.

Mine is on May 9th, so just a week after!

Well, I looked online for calculators and one said 28% and another said 50-some %. I'm betting mine is more towards the 50% [emoji6].

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
