mountainman2292 16 Posted April 6, 2017 Relax, lol. I have had a few surgeries over my life, not as bad as some people make it out to be. You will do great. My gastric doc put me on a low dose antidepressant to keep my nerves calm and put me at ease during this journey, maybe you can ask your doctor to prescription you something. Your surgeon will not do the surgery because your nervous, everyones nervous. 1 Monasmle reacted to this

Sadiebug 206 Posted April 6, 2017 I kept reminding myself why I made the decision to have the surgery. And made a very long list of things I wanted to do when I lost the weight and things I wouldn't miss about being fat. Looking at that over and over and over helped. 2 Monasmle and ilgc reacted to this
James Marusek 5,244 Posted April 6, 2017 Frankly I was too busy to feel anxiety. I would recommend three things to begin with. 1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. 2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery. 3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery. 2 ilgc and Monasmle reacted to this
arringtonc49 188 Posted April 6, 2017 I weighed my pros and consPlus this support group really helped. I was so scared and anxious that I was going to cancel until I got on this siteThe day before my surgery. The responses I received was so encouraging that all that fear I had was gone. 1 ilgc reacted to this
Myaiku_Kuraitani 245 Posted April 6, 2017 My surgery is in like two weeks. If I ever feel anxious or worried, I journal about it then weigh my pros and cons and then after that I feel better. [emoji846] 1 ilgc reacted to this
