Rosalynn 8 Posted April 4, 2017 3 days after surgery my husband & I need to take the kids to their week long summer camp. My husband can do the trip on his own but things run smoother when moms around. Is a 6 hr. round road trip too much just 3 days out?
snapy17 39 Posted April 4, 2017 3 days is maybe too soon for a 6 hour road trip. Pain, nausea & gas may make that trip miserable for you & others traveling with you IMHO. 1 maggieO reacted to this
Hoping052017 97 Posted April 4, 2017 I would say talk to your Dr. I would think that as long as you're not the one driving and frequent stops are invoked, then it shouldn't be too big of a problem. But@snapy17 is right, it probably won't be a fun trip. Talk to your Dr though and get his/ her opinion.

One may say no, another might say yes, and another might say listen to your own body and takes your queues from it. I'm allowed to travel after my surgery for as long as I can tolerate. I'm just not allowed to drive myself until I'm totally off the pain meds that are prescribed afterwards. That's why I made the suggestion to talk to her Dr. All Doctors are different. EmmyJ 184 Posted April 4, 2017 I took just a 3 hour trip 2 weeks out, and I was not happy. I managed, but it wasn't fun. I'd leave this one to your husband if possible.
jenifreckles47 6 Posted April 4, 2017 My family went on spring break 3 days after my surgery. My husband drove and I sat shotgun with my pain meds on board and watched netflicks. Once we got to Florida, I sat and enjoyed the view for a week. It was a good chance for me to get my head in the right place and enjoy my family. I did talk with my surgeon about it in advance and he was fine with me being in the car. He did send me home with Lovenox knowing that was my plan.

4TheHealthOfIt 32 Posted April 5, 2017 My surgeon requires us to be no farther than 1 hour away for the first 7 days in case there are any complications I also don't think I would have been very comfortable in the car for much longer than my ride home. I swear I felt every bump, dip, pothole in the road. It's hard letting go of mommy responsibilities. I felt very disconnected from my kids/family my first week home, but I"m grateful that my hubs had the reins so I could rest and be comfortable.
SleeveDreamer 383 Posted May 26, 2017 My doctor told me that I could go on a six hour road trip after two weeks, and even then I will need to get out of the car about every two hours and walk around rest area for at least five minutes. But not before two weeks because of blood clotting.
naturallyzee 292 Posted May 26, 2017 I traveled 6 days post-op. It was a total 12 hour drive. It took us 2 days. I was very unhappy. The drain was annoying. It's a good thing I had a beautiful beach view from the hotel. I just lay there looking at the the Water. I came out once or twice. It also took us 2 days to get home. I asked my hubby to drop me off at the ER when we got back to town. Ended up staying 2 days.Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app
