New Me 31317 25 Posted April 4, 2017 I am 3 weeks out and have just started soft foods...so far, yogurt, cottage cheese and refried beans...twice in the last 24 hours, i have dry heaved...the second time was much worse as white foamy stuff was coming up....i still feel pain 4 hours later...how do you prevent the dry heaves? EmmyJ 184 Posted April 4, 2017 It can be tricky transitioning back to food. You may need to eat more slowly, and with smaller bites than you anticipated. Just a little bit over the edge can send one of us into the ugly froth zone. Take your time, get the small bite as liquidy in your mouth as you can, and wait a while before the next one. Good luck 1 MaHaBone reacted to this

CaliCozyWozy 27 Posted April 4, 2017 I didn't do the bean consistency until 4!weeks -- but maybe u ate too fast or too much -- did u try and drink with ur food ?
Hoping052017 97 Posted April 4, 2017 I would think refried Beans would cause major gas issues. (Which could be where the pain is coming from) But they are also high in carbohydrates, which would slow your weight loss. The plan I'm on doesn't even allow beans (except cooked green beans) until way after 6 months, if at all, until very close to goal weight. Good luck!
Kearner 26 Posted April 4, 2017 It happened to me once - eating bite of soft chicken. I ate it to fast and took to big of bites. I find it hard to eat slow. I've been practicing since before my surgery like they recommended but it's just tough - very busy household lol
jenifreckles47 6 Posted April 4, 2017 Chew chew chew and put your fork down in between bites. You will figure out when to take another bite. It was hard in the beginning for me, but now I am getting the hang of it. You will too!!
MaHaBone 18 Posted April 4, 2017 Like others have said- eat slow and chew a lot! Make a point to put your food/fork/spoon down between bites. If you eat at your desk, take a bite, send some e-mails, then take another bite. It gives your stomach time to process, and it will give you time to react to any negative signals from your stomach!
