Help! I think my band has slipped!

Recommended Posts

Here is the question, I am really worried that my band has slipped! I do not feel anymore restriction and I am pretty much eating the same amount I was before my band. I am gaining weight and feeling like I don't even have a band. I am able to eat everything which has not helped! :cry How easy is it for someones band to slip? Is it something that is very common or not? Also, how does it slip, and how can someone prevent it from happening? I am sooo paranoid right now and I can't see my doctor until October 27th when I get my fill! I am really worried that I am going to have to get the band replaced and to have surgery all over again! Please help... anyone who knows anything about this or has experienced it. I really need some answers on this! :nervous

Thank you!

I don't see any reason to think your band has slipped. Restriction can go away over time - with weightloss, with new body patterns that emerge, etc.

How easy is it for someones band to slip? I don't know that this is something that can be qualified in terms of hard or easy. It's kind of like falling down. Sometimes it just happens, no "hard" or "easy" involved. Is it something that is very common or not? Slips are included in complications, and I think current complication rates are less than 1%. You'd have to check the literature to be sure. Also, how does it slip, It becomes repositioned along the esophagus. and how can someone prevent it from happening? Not sure it can be prevented. That's kind of like saying "How do I prevent falling down?" You can be careful (i.e. follow the rules) and help it not happen, but probably it's just going to happen sometimes. Things believed to contribute are frequent PBing, vomiting, and being overfilled. I know of someone who was told hers slipped due to very violent, prolonged coughing spells. I know people who have followed all the rules 9self report of course) and slipped.
I'd say chill... you're probably not slipped. You've probably just lost some restriction. In the unlikely event that something has happened, you doc will be able to tell very easily.

Relax Grasshopper! Your band just loosened up because you most likely lost some fat around your stomach, or your swelling went down!

I seriously doubt that your band has slipped. You would be throwing up all over the place and be in pain. So, relax. If your dr. thought it had slipped, he would see you immediately. You did call him regarding your fears????

I called and there is nothing they can do until they see me at the end of this month. I went to Mexico. My doc said he didn't think that was the case but really has no way of knowing until he sees me. So, I am just crossing my fingers! What about streatching your pouch, is that a possibility? I eat almost as much as I used to so I am hoping it is not streatched out!

How much do you have in your band???????

I have the 4cc band (which is marketed to fill to 4cc's) but my doc says it can be over filled a bit.. he says he doesn't have anyone with my size band over 5cc's in it... but others have said that a 4cc band can actually be overfilled to 6cc's.

Hi,

My band slipped last month, I had very bad pain upper middle area all day and night. Had to have an upper GI to see if my band had slipped and it did, only on one side. So my Doctor unfilled me and in one month he will do another upper GI to see if the band reposition it self. I still had restriction when I ate with my slip. I now have gained 3 pound in three weeks. I'm trying very hard not to eat much, but I don't feel full at all. I was very upset when the Doctor told me what had happen, all I wanted to do was to eat. My classes I go to for weekly support threw my Doctors office has help me to be more aware. Good Luck with you next Doctor appt.

It is highly unlikely that you slipped with no fill yet. I wasn't "throwing up all over the place" when I had a slip, but I certainly couldn't keep anything solid down, so I stayed on liquids. You would most likely have other symptoms such as heartburn, back pain, etc.

i have a 10cc band and its filled to 4.5?? i dont fully understand if i have 10cc why i'm as tight as i can go. they took me to 5cc during my last fill but they unfilled 1/2 because it was too tight.

when i go again for a visit i will totally ask for clarification on the 10cc thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
