BGCSTP01 3 Posted April 3, 2017 I had my Roux En Y on 3/30/17, and came home on 4/1/17. Everything is okay except I am constipated. I have not had a BM since the surgery. Is that normal? How did you overcome this problem? Thanks!
Phoenix40 66 Posted April 3, 2017 It took 5 days for me to have BM after surgery. The first couple of days I dont think I was eating enough to have a BM. My doctor prescribed stool softeners and I started taking them my second night home. GAWildKat 82 Posted April 3, 2017 Every doc is different on their procedures regarding this. It's not too much tmi to them. Ask, but the usual is Miralax and stool softeners. Dosages can change for postop bariatric patients, so check with your surgeon's office. 1 BGCSTP01 reacted to this
CaliCozyWozy 27 Posted April 3, 2017 I'm 5 weeks post op and I use miralax in my Protein Shake to assist with that issue 1 BGCSTP01 reacted to this

BrittBritt89 15 Posted April 3, 2017 I was constipated for 7 days after surgery. I was so miserable that I finally called my surgeons office and I was told that I could take milk of magnesia 1 BGCSTP01 reacted to this
BGCSTP01 3 Posted April 4, 2017 Ugh... thank you for sharing your thoughts. In the meantime, I tried 100% no sugar added Prune juice, before giving in to over the counter medicinal options. Had somewhat of movement, but if it doesn't get better I will giving my physician buzz... that begs the second question: is Constipation going to be an ongoing thing for rest of my life? Akka 4 Posted April 4, 2017 Constipation will be a thing if you don't get enough fluids. Eat Popsicles, drink Water or crystal light, or hot tea. It is so hard to do, but the more you drink, the easier it is on your bowels. The more Protein you have, then you need more Fluid as well. Doc said not to worry too much about the protein the first few weeks. liquid, liquid, liquid. 1 BGCSTP01 reacted to this
GAWildKat 82 Posted April 4, 2017 It depends, I had semi slow bowels prior to surgery. I'd have a bm 1x/day prior to surgery most of the time. But it took miralax and Fiber to jump start things. But I had stay on the miralax and fiber routine. It wasn't unexpected in my case.Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk 1 BGCSTP01 reacted to this
