Hi All,

I'm getting sleeved on April 20 and my WLS program doesn't include psych as a part of it.

I am considering wether pursuing this myself as others I know who have had the surgery commented about mental state as now they have so much time on hand now they aren't preoccupied with eating or thinking about it as much as they did previously.

I am definitely an emotional eater and worried about how this will impact my success.

Any sleevers have advice about success and psych/counselling through the process?

If you know you are an emotional eater, I would definitely seek the help of a psych prior to surgery. The surgery won't fix that and you'll have to struggle against it postop. You need to do everything you can to make the surgery successful because you only get one shot.

I am in therapy while going through my post-op, and I think it's a very good idea. I started with her before the surgery and she knows all my issues. Having someone to talk things out with will definitely help your success :)

Sessions with a psychologist are required as a part of our program and have been completely invaluable to me. I was diagnosed and treated for ADHD, which completely revolutionized my lifestyle even pre-surgery. A psych can help you with the transition, dealing with emotional eating and helping you find new and healthier ways to cope... and if you are a compulsive overeater a psych is 100% NECESSARY because compulsive overeaters often flat out hurt themselves eating post-surgery since what is going on with them goes far beyond hunger. And even if you don't have any "issues" to point out, a psych can help you work through the fact that you have made an irreversible decision and changed your entire life in the course of a day. Any person could use help adjusting to that!

As ever, the surgery is on our stomachs, not our brains. ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
